Tiffani Taylor’s newest body of work, titled “Soul Roots,” takes the viewer on a journey of the Wyoming landscapes found within the artist’s mental suitcase of pictures… it proposes the questioning of what is beauty… and focuses on how in life we cannot have the Light without the dark.

All five paintings take place during the “Golden Hour.” That special moment when the sun starts to set and the world glows with a honeyed Light…

For the past twenty years, Tiffani’s art has been inspired by a recurring dream… In 1998, she departed from Ogden, Utah to fulfill her dream and attend the Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, Georgia. After becoming incredibly homesick, she began to dream of her Grandmother’s sheet music juxtaposed with scenes of landscapes from her childhood. These memories stay tucked in the mind of the Artist and flutter around her brain vividly as if they just occurred.

“Soul Roots” expands upon the theme of “Nature: My Cathedral” with a seeking to visually describe Divinity in Nature, the Sublime. What makes this body of work truly unique from past creations is the artist’s inclusion of recognizing the darkness, not only in nature, but in life. Darkness meaning “trauma.”

It is thus through the Artist’s techniques, that she expresses the overcoming of trauma and the seeking of beauty and light. Her organic layering depicts the messiness of life. Drips signify the cathartic release of both pain and beauty. Gold is utilized to depict Light; or God and Divinity. This Light is above all, magnified by the darkness.

As a viewer, I am enthralled by the bold use of the powdered gold and how intensely bright it is in the sunlight… it feels as if I have fallen into the vortex of this painting and I’m standing in this wilderness of the Wyoming landscape… The magnitude of “Aspen Trees: A Prayer” specifically requires me to stand on the other side of the Gallery to take the 60” x 72” painting in fully. I am soothed, baffled, incensed, uplifted, ecstatic, and at peace all at the same time when viewing this series.
